I think many or most of us emerged from the cold war with some degree of PTSD. Living your entire life with the threat of being flash-fried at 15 minutes’ notice because some clown in a suit got twitchy about an abstruse point of ideology will do that to you.

Same here -on the other side of the barricade at that time. I knew exactly where the cloud would appear & that you always have to look away because the flash would burn your retina. I remember having dreams about this as early as 6yo. Back then this was just BaU of normal life.

I grew up in silicon valley. I think the guess was 9 bombs in the close enough category.
