It depends on two things: 1) FB not backing down 2) The alternative getting up fast enough (I'm not saying it's not doable, just those are the obvious challenges to face)

Microsoft are already stepping in to provide news content that is paid for. They will happily take over where FB left off.

In an improbable twist of events, imagine if this improves Facebook. It could be a place where you see more updates from your friends instead of being sucked into doom scrolling news and clickbait advertisements.

It could be the inverse. Rather than seeing news from professional organisations with fact-checking etc, you only see 2nd/3rd hand accounts of news and anecdotal stories.
