"The subjects are winning" seems a memeworthy self-own on the scale of "unfettered conversation." The solution? Treat them more harshly.https://www.cjr.org/public_editor/washington-post-tesla-trump-power.php …

There is truth to this, but I'm also curious about the other direction. Is it not also true that the right has done all kinds of stuff to lose their credibility too? Maybe I should cut to the chase and ask: what news sources you currently trust?
-
I trust individual writers. I don't care what organization employs them, if any.

Gatekeepers whining about their role being challenged is eternal. Financial elites hyperventilate over "shadow banking" or "retail mobs" Media elites over loss of credibility. It's not like the Catholic churched embraced Martin Luther.

This and their absurdly Byzantine unsubscribe policy are what did it for me.

NYT is a dumb rag. I met an editor late 2015 and told them the best thing they could do to win for their side was not cover the guy at all. The dude looked at me like I was nuts & said we have to blast every detail to as many people as possible of course. I walked away, no hope.

Can we make the term “fake news” not taboo anymore? Because they are fake news.

Their Junior High treatment of
@bariweiss was enough for me. Everything since has just confirmed I waited too long to give up on them.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

Would this article read more generously, if one read it as written from the perspective of "the people"? I think the author was trying to tap into populist outrage, and didn't even think that their audience would need convincing such was the case.
-
The problem with being a member of the elite is that tapping into a populist message is like trying to put on shoes the wrong size. Your feet may fit, bit everyone can see they aren't meant for you.
