"It’s refreshing to read a piece by someone so thoroughly unworried about being cancelled." — comment from a friend reading a draft of a new essay

Maybe it is a sign of a 'yes' bubble which is a drawback to being wealthy. Maybe negative feedback cycles are good. Maybe it should be as easy as posdible for someone to tell you you are wrong. If you have a legion of defenders that can be a hindrance but not if you are no one.

If you are no one there the risk is being not even wrong

I wonder if this advantage can be learned (or taught?).

We have a word in South Africa called Mize, which means ignore, learning the art of Mize could be an answer.

One advantage of having gone to high school in a rural state while FB was getting popular is that my social media feed is always full of people with opinions that would not be comfortable to express at a dinner party in NY/CA/UK. Many areas where cancellation is not a problem.

“Cancelled” is the mot-du-jour and it’s way over-used. These terms have a way of framing our perspective but can also confine our thinking.
