Ideologues think they can further their aims by taking over prestigious institutions. But it doesn't work for the same reason debasing coinage doesn't work. "The New York Times says..." doesn't have anything like the force it did 20 years ago.

How often were you writing about the New York Times 20 years ago? How much more of your brainspace is that paper taking up today than it was then? Are you sure the ideologues haven't already won?
It takes up far less. I talk about it more, as an interesting case of moral and intellectual breakage, but I read it far less.

Makes sense. I’d bet the ideologues at the helm are pretty ok with that situation, though - lots of free publicity.
