Once you have to leave the founders' heads to get some kind of expertise, you're operating much less efficiently. This is most obvious in the case of programming, but it's true of any kind of expertise.

If you want to start a startup, it's good to know about multiple, unrelated things. Startups often depend on 4 or 5 different kinds of knowledge, and it's great if they can all be found in 2 founders.
