It's the other 50 weeks a year, when you're answering slacks/emails/zooms at 7am or 10pm or while on vacation (or in the hospital, true story), that balance that out (at least in every tech company I've worked for...)

That's mostly just tech companies in the US. Here in Europe for the most part people regularly go for 3 week vacations and completely disconnect.

While there is a “Tech” cultural phenomenon at play, I imagine the benefits are causal with projected profit margins and ease of access to equity markets, which afford Tech companies to offer more vacations, puppy rooms, free lunch, etc.

Also the nature of businesses who sell automated solutions. Tech and restaurants both have servers working over the holidays, just metal vs people.

There is an interesting side effect to this, the benefits offered by tech companies accrue not just to the technical staff but to all functions (Support etc), not necessarily to the same degree though.
