One difficulty when trying to ban ideas on social networks is that it's the edge cases that matter most, but bans are enforced by low-level employees who don't understand them.

Both of those potential solutions have big drawbacks. That's why I describe them as counterintuitive. But perhaps there are clever ways to overcome them. It's still too early in the evolution of this technology to know what's possible.

Or just don't do it. Don't ban content that is not illegal.

What about the possibility of shutting down a service you founded after it’s clear that it’s a dire threat to e.g. democracy, stability of the western world, etc.?
-
If you mean Facebook, the problem is that even if you did shut down yours, someone else would start a replacement, and users would flock to it.

Factor in how demoralizing it is. And how quickly it evolves. It demands humans, but the task itself is inhumane.

Honestly it's kind of the answer to evaporating service jobs if it didn't risk people's mental health. But also the more people employed doing it, the less strain per individual.

Banning ideas seems like a pretty bad idea.
-
>Have the users do it It's likely that people will end up banning ideas they detest. >Have smart people do it Smart people often have terrible beliefs. Why would I want people with terrible beliefs to decide what ideas are and are not allowed to be developed?
