When someone's audience derives mostly from complaining about some narrow set of problems, they have less incentive to fix them, or even acknowledge progress other people make toward fixing them.

Many complain about defects in products which aren't for them/they don't use in the first place. This leads some to invent solutions to non-problems to satisfy non-users. Some complain that spoons don't have static typing, and yet some go invent static typing for spoons.

Yep. This happened to me with my blog - which was a series of rants, essentially on the architecture profession. I started it in fall 2011. In 2012 or so, others are gone on to resolve many of the problems I wrote about. Yet I had grown stagnant, dispersed. It was very bitter.

I've often made the converse argument about the leaders themselves and their incentive not to fix what gives them power over their flock. - How Taxes Steal Dreams https://www.ideafaktory.com/taxes-steal-dreams/ …pic.twitter.com/d0Pu7JcYML

Defining yourself only by what you are in opposition to something else is a good way to make sure the problem you’re opposed to lasts even longer. Because you’ll be constantly reviving it to retain a sense of identity and self-respect.

I never realized what a problem single-issue politics was until I got older. I used to think "Issue X? Why of course the answer is Y!" Now I think "Issue X? Have you thought about how issues A,B, and C are also important and are deeply related to X? What else do we not know?"
