GMail just tried to stick me with a bunch of new "smart features." The dialog was written to sound as if I were disabling existing functionality by refusing them. But I suppose misleading me is better than quietly adding them, as they've sometimes done in the past.

I've been had then, thought I was disabling something too. That'll teach me not to read the fine print

You'd be disabling tabbed inboxes, if you use them.

Features should be user-based, not forced upon. Follow @strong_leaders to learn about strong mentality and leadership.

we should consider paying people for doing nothing (for example, not adding useless features to a clean, simple and working product)

Technically they did enable them silently before this popup was introduced So the dialog is actually accurate when it mentions “disabling existing functionality” This popup should’ve been prompted over a year ago

Not having much control on a software I relay so much on made me think about going self hosted but I don’t have the skill and the time to keep it safe, so for now I just left gmail for a competitor with servers in the EU 🇪🇺

I’m surprised that you are using an ad-supported e-mail service when there are so many great alternatives.
