When Hellosign was founded in 2010, the whole concept of electronic signatures seemed dubious. Now the switch has flipped completely, and there's a special phrase, "wet signature," for the few remaining things that can't be signed electronically.

But that's by contrast to scanned imaged PDFs as well as other tech products. Not really illustrative of massive disruption other than that typically associated with distributed tech (i.e., email).

A beautiful use of tech - saves tons of unnecessary human drudgery, speeds up processes, more secure and compliant, and more cost effective. Smart tech is truly an extension of human evolution.

It is interesting that electronic signatures can be more reliable than paper signatures (and cryptographic signing and root authenticators that guarantee that signing is actually done by the right person), but in it's current form they are not really.

Makes sense, given sorry state of contracts and law in the West. Nearly everything is fake(d).

"Digitalization" has been a thing in Japan for ages, but COVID-19 has … shall we say … provided some additional urgency to the project:https://www.japantimes.co.jp/news/2020/07/25/national/japanese-government-digital-paper/ …

I remember "wet signature" being used pre-2010 to distinguish from scanned copies (but agree with the point you're making anyway)
