i wonder how much of apple’s continued success can be attributed to how much tim cook honors sj and is relentless in keeping alive what he built

I hope not! Steve was big on telling people not to try to guess what he’d do, but find their own pathhttps://appleinsider.com/articles/11/10/21/apple_board_member_says_steve_jobs_told_team_not_to_ask_what_would_steve_do/amp/ …

While I don’t think they follow blindly, it can be a useful tool. One of the best tools I learned was to list out a bunch of thinkers you respect and then go down asking... “what would X do?” Just to spark perspective. If I knew Steve well. He’d certainly be on that list.

What does it mean to run a company in a way that honors a departed founder? What are the parts worth preserving from SJ at Apple? Keep his office just as he left it? (Apparently, this was done.) Maintain his weekly schedule? Obsess over the fit and finish of the products?

What does honoring a legacy mean? When does it become worthless second-guessing? Since it’s impossible to know what SJ would do in most situations, worrying about that too much starts to seem more like a cult than a company.

It’s fascinating how being exposed to someone lets you run an emulation of them that can’t really be summarized or explained in words.
