I'm watching Armaggedon and, after what happened this year, it's no longer believable that we'd be able to destroy a huge asteroid and save the world in 18 days when it took us 2 months to figure out that we should wear masks against a respiratory virus.

I was explaining a pandemic based plot for a movie to a guy selling gyros and he lamented that we wouldn't be able to make it. I replied "Well, not in America, but otherwise yeah we could." He had no idea that other countries are not sharing our hell.

I think we have to reclassify the 1st World vs 3rd World distinction, at least across some dimensions, countries' positions can be completely reversed.

Space exploration is one thing we do flawlessly. A favorite day of year in S. California is the Open House at Jet Propulsion Laboratory
@NASAJPL where you get to meet & talk to scientists who run the programs. It inspires ... and obliterates cynicism about government.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

It's actually worse than that, as
@veritasium illustrates beautifully: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Wrc4fHSCpw … Even if we wanted to, we probably couldn't destroy an asteroid large enough to do any real damage. Sweet dreamsThanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo
