Apple doesn’t need to worry about second order effects because they are masters of brand.

It is priced well above established competitors, and that’s worrisome imo if $550-range will be taken as the new norm for noise cancelling headphones. A part of me hope what happened to the full sized Homepod happens to this as well.
-
for reference, homepod launched for $349, Apple officially discounted it to $299 without a newer iteration being released, and third party retailers (e.g. best buy) occasionally offers them at $199. Exceedingly rare for a product that hasn’t met its successor.

An empathic Apple might have release SchoolPods, $50 downmarket AirPods optimized for speech and noise cancellation so kids could remote school easier. Then, do a special where for every pair of AirPods Max purchased, a kid somewhere received a free set of SchoolPods.

But what do I know, I'm not worth a trillion dollars.
