One of the few times I’m covinced @paulg is reading the tea leaves wrong. After this weird stint of forced remote work, most companies and their employees will be craving to get back to an office and better understand the importance of working together in a shared physical space.https://twitter.com/paulg/status/1335572393989902336 …

Prediction: Remote work will become so fashionable that even companies that don't get it will try to embrace it, leading to a bimodal distribution of outcomes. This bimodal distribution will be the same we've seen over and over already: tech cos will win.

I might be. I'm not sure. Certainly some people will be eager to work together in person again. But at the same time, companies that were previously automatically against remote work will have discovered it actually works. So it's hard to be sure which force will prevail.

This I agree with. More companies will have *some* remote work, but remote work will not “eat the world” as some seem to suggest.

One of things I miss going to office is brainstorming/thoughtful disagreements with colleagues which is key to personal and professional growth. Also you don’t bring your work home. Wish to be back asap if not full-time at least 3/4 days per week

I suspect there will be a snap back. After the vaccine we'll see most, but not all, offices return. Over a longer time horizon remote work seems more likely. It is difficult to imagine a 2040 where remote work tools aren't substantially better than today.

You’ll end up working remotely, but have physical coworkers from different companies. Previously they were from different departments.

I agree with your initial point. Working on Zoom is great, especially after getting used to it. Much better than an hour and a half commute.

Pretty sure we’ll see the hybrid approach win: more remote work, but periodic co-location. That co-location could be at the local office, but also could look like offsites if workforces scatter geographically.

There's no progress without being wrong. It's not so much Paul's predictions that are worthwhile, but his insight into the innovation process? Saying that, his track record is impeccable.
