Anyone who's politically moderate (http://paulgraham.com/mod.html ) and interested in ideas will be arguing mostly against the left. The right is as wrong as the left, but the left is culturally dominant, so in intellectual questions, a moderate will be right of the median.

What much else is there beyond economy & defense? Identity politics are just a stand-in for the fact the we stopped debating the fundamental issues that drive the most important things in society: prosperity, wealth and social mobility.

Pronouns!? That’s your first example of “left” vs “right”? Sigh. I don’t understand why this bothers you. Why is it a big deal to try to call people by the term they would prefer be used for themselves? It makes someone happier and isn’t hard. I don’t get the problem.
