I think zoos suck and we shouldn’t have them

It's true it's hard to explain the pure joy children experience in seeing and touching these real animals.

In the 21st century, keeping large, intelligent animals in captivity seems very cruel and outdated.
-
IMO the redeeming qualities for zoos are (1) drums up interest in preservation (2) finances research (3) not all individual animals can survive in the wild (e.g. injured, orphaned, etc) (4) breeding stock for endangered species.

Do the animals in the zoo have children?

Nope. But (assuming no COVID circumstances obviously), there's a lot of things out there for kids that aren't quite so exploitative. Also I was wondering why my lazy tweet had this many replies

Seems to me that the way animals are kept and harvested for meat is far more exploitative and cruel than any zoo. I’m not a vegan or anything so it’s not coming from that perspective. Zoos fall pretty far down the priority list, don’t you think?

The well-educated talking tigers I know are sick-to-death of being pulled over all the time just because they "resemble a perpetrator".
