Every Christmas season, I realize how little progress online shopping has made since the late 1990s. I'm still unsure if the item's really in stock, still typing many characters in forms, still getting my credit card rejected with random opaque error messages.

Hasn't Amazon pretty much solved all of these? -they display remaining stock on items -they have one-click purchasing Their monopolistic practices are abhorrent, but credit where credit is due.

It's absolutely mystifying why Amazon hasn't implemented a "sort by quantity of reviews" option yet.

+1. From epitome of CX as an Inventory-led Ecommerce Company, Amazon has become quite a PITA as an Online Marketplace, what with dubious sellers, separate delivery for each SKU in the order, hazy returns policy, etc.

Good distinction. Contacting 3rd party sellers is buried and in my case today, i can't even find it (and it's reputable local seller).

@CharlieSand3rs When we shop we have different jobs to be done. Yes, amazon, like Walmart, is great for when you have a specific product you beed to buy eg washing detergent. It is a hard problem to crack, when you are set up to perform as a marketplace and aggregator as well. Aggregator systems may not be top notch as your marketplace so you will still see items backordered and cc rejected
