Science can be a religion. Think of the beliefs that infuriate you when they’re challenged by someone. That’s your religion.

The difference is that with science you can can stop being infuriated and still have objective data to evaluate. With religion is not the case, it's just emotional attachment.

I’ve always wondered how much of that statement was genuine vs. Intended to appease. Although it’s to some extent pithy, it seems off brand.

Reading religion broadly to mean morality, I think this statement is correct. Enhancing our abilities without an objective or constraints on how we do things seems “blind”.
