Curiously enough I taught him the opposite: that when they're teenagers they should make niche games that big studios wouldn't bother with, because .1% of what a big game makes would still be huge for teenagers.

That sounds wise. Also when the big studios are turning the crank on the same old games (I.e someone’s brilliant title becomes the “engine” for a series) and need a fresh idea, one of those niche games will be the next Minecraft

I don't think we thought money was interesting until after Northside scaled, acquired, failed, was bought back, and then imploded. Money would have kept all of those people employed & doing work that everyone loved with people they loved. (the original goal).

I used that successfully for a few years. Made the most salary of my life up to now, but in my early twenties. I later realized I should have been simply focused on “what is fun” and allowing my answer to go as big as it deserved. Limiting beliefs.
