The +30% the NYT is talking about only applies if you're comparing now to when the index was the lowest in February - March, not if you're comparing to before the pandemic. So it's technically true but very misleading to the average reader.

They do label it Opinion. I wonder if "Opinion" content has taken over. I bet a data dashboard makes the connection between those headlines and more profit inescapable. Maybe we should start a

As the recent NYMagazine article highlighted, the Opinion section is a big culprit. Attracts huge attention because it preys upon emotion. As you've prev talked about, in their new data-to-optimize-subs-conversion, def radicalized that part & in process damaging the NYT-brand
