Any example of a 'dated' thing that's perfectly aligned with today's fashion?

Haircuts. Always haircuts. If you find a poster of haircuts in the window of a barbershop and save it for 30 years, it is guaranteed to look ridiculous.

Rather pedantic, no? Cyclical nature of inventions (novelty vs utility)

Interesting. The word 'contemporary' kinda has this duality where sometimes the audience doesn't understand if you are talking about contemporary to the time period in question, or to today. Plus 'Modern' can also be ambiguous.

When I hear "contemporary" before a word like "design" or "art," in my mind I can't help deleting the initial "con."
