I can't believe I didn't make this connection when I was writing "The Four Quadrants of Conformism" (http://paulgraham.com/conformism.html ), but we shouldn't be surprised that the aggressively conventional-minded love quote-tweets. It's the perfect form for those who were tattletales as kids.

He might be lying, which I doubt, but I vaguely remember seeing Jack on Joe Rogan talking about slowing down retweeting in a way on another to inhibit thoughtless virality. So maybe they're not following engagement numbers.

A bigger problem, in my mind, is that conformity today seems to have a strong bias away from doing useful physical things. Lots of interesting ideas going into computer games. Nowhere approaching that much going into externally tangible things. Might annoy the neighbors.
