Hypothesis: Twitter could just let people edit tweets and it would be fine. Presumably they worry about edge cases like someone changing the meaning of a tweet completely after others retweet it. But only a few people would do that, and you'd learn not to retweet them.

it’s such a clear value add that they probably would have done it already if it were easy maybe it’s the mass copying that happens when people engage with tweets. it’s more like speed-Pinterest than Reddit

I don't think anyone would copy the same information that too at this scale, when they can just refer to same source. Could be more like initially they announced, we'll not do it & ironically it also helps in growth

Grievance archaeologists going through your liked history to find something to hang you with would have some trouble knowing what you liked when you liked it. You could respond to attack by saying "I don't remember liking that Tweet so what appears now was probably edited."
