It's a fair point, Paul. But I'm sure the reason Nicholas replied, and certainly the reason I made my point, is that one runs into this kind of nonsense (and not only on Twitter and other social media) all the time. One encounters it in class--and even in the faculty lounge.

This is a bad tweet for attacking him for his gender. However, there were many legitimate criticisms of his tweet, pointing out that he's giving society a bad solution for misinformation in science. So maybe Twitter needs to do a better job of helping people find actual content

The most remarkable thing about this whole exchange, to ME, is seeing the complete obliviousness by three guys towards putting their egos on full display in front of a cartoon brain. You rarely see something that petty and shallow escape the world of academia.
