Ok so there’s a lot of hyperbole around “biggest / most challenging problems”.... what do you think are *actually* the biggest and most challenging problems worth solving in the world right now? Like if we could make an ordered list and make some issues disappear, what’s # 1-5?

The most obvious one is climate change, but there could be even bigger problems that we don't notice because we take them for granted. Historically the biggest problems that got solved tended to be in the latter category.

I like the idea that intelligence augmentation (human or AI) is a good meta-problem to solve because it can then solve all the other problems.

It's hard to think of bigger problems than climate change, but there could be some that have climate change as a subset. E.g. if energy got cheap enough, we could probably just suck the excess carbon out of the atmosphere.

Overpopulation. The hardest challenge because all the solutions are horrible. Climate change is a subset of this problem.

IMHO you can't solve climate change without solving poverty. Unless, people's immediate basic needs are met they will not care about more distant threats, even if they are existential threats.

A big problem we take for granted is that most people die after 70 or 80 years. If that were fixed, people would look back on today like we look back on hunter-gatherers.

Not only that, we're often increasingly sick for decades of that period. And particularly in those decades where we've accumulated the most expertise.

The most common cause of death nowadays is age so I'd put slowing down or reversing the damages on cells caused by the aging process high on my list.

The effort wasted on pursuing power might be 10% of all human effort. The waste caused by bad guys abusing power is much higher, like 50%. The main reason reason China, India, Africa, South America, Russia, Middle-East are not as prosperous as the US is bad guys in power.
