When you try something new, you inevitably attract haters. So not being deterred by haters is one of the skills you need in order to make change happen. Like most skills, it's a combination of natural ability and practice. But don't expect not to have to practice.

True - although you also have to be open to the possibility that criticism carries some validity and can make you / your service better. That's why it's so hard to do. 😁

In practice it's very easy to distinguish haters from people who are trying to offer constructive criticism. That is not the hard part about dealing with haters. The hard part is the hate.

It's hard to know what people are threatened about, even close friends.

Agree, and it is also important to make sure to fix things fast based on constructive criticism before critic becomes silent/hater.

I use a question (for myself and the founders I work with) when faced with harsh criticism.. "Are you shaken, or stirred"? So, if criticism stirs us to make our product better/ reach for more - then it is a powerful motivator - but can only happen if we don't become 'shaken'.

Again true, if the hate is on the extreme. Often it is more muted. Hence, it is frequently necessary (or wise) for #startups to be 'marmite' - that is, polemical where customers / supporters are either strongly for you AND strongly against.
