True - although you also have to be open to the possibility that criticism carries some validity and can make you / your service better.
That's why it's so hard to do.

In practice it's very easy to distinguish haters from people who are trying to offer constructive criticism. That is not the hard part about dealing with haters. The hard part is the hate.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GEPhLqwKo6g … .. the ones who see things differently — they’re not fond of rules… You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them, but the only thing you can’t do is ignore them because they change things…

I think getting over what haters/others think is like getting over a fear of spiders or flying etc. It’s a subconscious reaction that is hard to fight, often producing enough emotion to stop you wanting to fight it. Often people don’t fight it they just avoid it, tough to do.

I appreciate this is just expanding on exactly what you said, I just wanted to add how hard overcoming subconscious fears is for many.

Billy McFarland (Fyre Festival founder) is an example of this skill taken to the extreme. He was so good at dealing with the haters, he blinded himself to what was realistically possible. So paradoxically, founders need to be MORE like Billy McFarland, but NOT EXACTLY like him
-
I don’t think its that simple. I think to have a big impact you have to have a fanatical belief in yourself despite what others tell you. The best we can do is encourage people who are fanatical about compassionate causes.
