Last night my sons asked me all about drugs. I told them in as much detail as I could about each kind. My hope is that "fentanyl is *way* more dangerous than pot" will work better than the implicit equality of "say no to drugs."

That's a good start but when I tried to quit smoking, the way it affected my brain took me entirely by surprise. I would buy a pack on autopilot on way to work and not 'wake up' until halfway through a cig and remember I quit 3 days earlier.

The same from an addictive perspective? Definitely not in my personal experience. It has never hijacked my mind in the same way when I've gone without.

A very reasonable, understandable and (most likely) effective explanation! Way better then: „Stay away kid, drugs are evil and lure you into hell.“ Because one day kids discover that at least part of such an explanation is just „fiction“, and then question the whole statement.
