I'd venture it's one of those things that best corresponds with clinical depression or psychopathy or something similar. Self-deception is far too strong in the rest of us. @robinhanson might know tho.

I'll go the contrarian way, people are good narrators of their own reasons, if it's something trivial. People can, however, develop very personal mental code charts that are hard to untangle at face value.

It’s probably negatively correlated with IQ tbh. I think that smart ppl are better at finding numerous post hoc rationalizations for their behavior

A more interesting question is if there is some metric that is associated with better knowledge of your own decision making process. It's very unlikely to be IQ.
