Liberal education is a great thing, but when university administrators say that it's not job training, they mean that literally. It only seems to be because of the old-fashioned big company practice of requiring bachelors' degrees.

Agreed, but what is the best course (of action) for the masses that pursue such degrees, seemingly not suited to the sciences, engineering, etc. not the trades? I guess sales, marketing, teachers, and the other roles they end up in eventually ... and baristas ...

Agree, buy one problem of liberal colleges today is that they don't believe that any more and advertise thet improve job prospects. Instead of teaching Emerson, Socrates, Jefferson, Pythagoras, Smith, Marx, and classics, they teach stylish ideas that will go out of style

A true liberal education doesn't teach students the things they need to succeed specifically in the year they graduate, because those things are fragile as the world changes. Good liberal education gives graduates tools and framework to become lifelong learners.

Companies wouldn’t continue requiring bachelors degrees if they didn’t get something out of it. It’s more than inertia; they must see a difference. It could be, e.g., that while the degree doesn’t train for work, it’s presence self-selects for certain kinds of candidates.
