One thing parents know that most non-parents don't: how much more kids can understand than you'd guess. You can talk to a 9 or 10 year old almost like an adult and they'll understand most of it.

That's interesting. I've never heard anyone say that about kids. Probably a life lesson in there regardless of age. Also, I expect we all have some vague understanding of how kids develop, but there's more information in surprising things. Hence the question.

Fascinating, I'll read this for sure. Thank you. I would speculate that the best mix of tactics for solving an extremely hard problem is concentrated effort alternated with stepping away and letting your subconscious work on it, then sustain this for as long as it takes.

It’s scary how common this is. I saw a meta analysis on chess talent that suggested that IQ was correlated early on (beginners) but less as u go up in rank. Maybe because all great players are super smart, or maybe because at a certain point conscientiousness compensates 4 g.
