One thing parents know that most non-parents don't: how much more kids can understand than you'd guess. You can talk to a 9 or 10 year old almost like an adult and they'll understand most of it.

Occasionally people accuse me of inventing the conversations with my kids that I post on Twitter. What this tells me (besides that they're super nasty) is that these people don't have kids.

Incidentally, I don't talk to my kids like peers just for their sakes. I'm not trying to turn them into little prodigies. I talk to them this way because it's much more interesting than talking down to them.

Or they have kids but don't pay attention. Here's one of mine this week:https://twitter.com/tobiasreber/status/1326974720814747649 …

Another #sounddad report (need a better hashtag tho): Deathprod’s „Dead People’s Things“ is one of my favourite ambient pieces and certainly most-played background / cocoon music by far. This morning, while I’m writing and Ronja (4.5yrs) is doing another puzzle, she says:

Some studies show that infants just after birth are already beginning language processing. Learning happens much, much earlier than most people think.

You can't invent it. Btw I speak with my 3 year old like an adult and I'm amazed by the creativity and refreshing thinking. With most adults I can predict the answer. With my kid it's always a surprise

Our 3 year old: if lions eat deer, why doesn’t Santa turn the deer into reindeer so they can fly away?

Conversations with kids in real life get stranger and more charming than almost anyone without kids can imagine. Keep posting.

Spot on. I've been super impressed with how quickly our 15 month old picks up new vocabulary. Especially when he is in model training mode and pointing at things in books and having me classify them.

I have 5 kids, and your kid tweets get a little tiresome, but that may be more a reflection on me than you.
