The difference is level of income inequality. In England it remained quite high. In Northern Europe it is among the lowest in the developed countries, and the population is the happiest there. Of course neither of these are "Socialist" but capitalist economies with priv. property

Not even close. I have grown up in socialist Hungary, and socialism meant constant fear from expressing yourself, watching each of our sentences coupled with poverty resulting from an ultimately disfunctional, almost feudal client system.

Not a socialist. But like all Global North economies, Britain productivity was higher in the 70’s than 80’s.
