In the context of software, I personally believe in Doug Engelbart's and Alan Kay's view of software. Software should enable the user to solve their own problems. Delegating problem solving is what is wrong with the software world today.

The fact that I used the word "user" instead of "person" kind of highlights the problem. Because certainly if someone solves their own problems with their own software, then they aren't just a user.
