I think it's a mix of that with advances in genomics in sequencing the virus and manufacturing RNA/DNA that can stimulate an immune response. Also the virus itself is less mutable than other related viruses. So it doesn't present such a moving target for potential vaccines

The distribution of the vaccine could also extrinsically cause covid cases to decline. No one wants to be that guy who went out and got infected a week before he could’ve become vaccinated.
