It's not just airlines that compete with airlines. Software does too. This is important to remember when fighting climate change. The best solution may not be a cleaner version of some polluting technology, but something much further afield.pic.twitter.com/f7EYA2oEWT

Vectors of competition just scale very differently in a world with software.

Availability bias is probably a necessary or inevitable condition. We will need many minds pursuing many paths to overcome what is almost assuredly going to be a series of local maximums.

Did airlines/hotels help fund vaccine efforts? (I did a quick search, but didn't find any info) They have every interest to end the pandemic. Why didn't they try? Is it just tragedy of the commons, or did they not believe it could be done/they could make a difference?

I suspect that when a company knows that it’s about to make little money for a long time, it decides to not donate a bunch. Could they really have donate enough money (relative to the rest of the world) to really make a difference?

Linear play vs. Orthogonal play. Would be interesting to think about other industries that need an orthogonal solution as opposed to a linearly better one.

Hmm I think airlines may be competing with rubber ducks. Make sure to check the ticker on that.

Jevons paradox though will eventually apply, even when the entire world is virtual, energy demand could keep on growing since that provides more “utility”.
