Blaming other people for the failure of your startup makes it more likely to happen. That sounds like a paradox — that you'd have to go back in time — but it's not. Though excuses may not be made till after failure, the two grow in parallel.

You're saying, if your nature is to blame others, then your problems start at home?

A startup is like a mosquito. A bear can absorb a hit and a crab is armored against one, but a mosquito is designed for one thing : to score. No energy is wasted on defense. - Paul Graham

Reminds me of Yerkes–Dodson Law. Maybe it reduces the drive that is optimal for performance since you have a safety net (external excuse) for failing.

Reactivity vs proactivity. You blame others as a defensive reaction. You prevent failures with proactive planning.

it's like blaming other people for the failure of your 2020 new years resolution workout plan. you can make all the excuses you want, but at the end of the day, the decline really started in february. or late january. or early january.

I did implicitly blame other people once and then explicitly apologised; hoping to do better next time. Is there anything wrong with that?

Trash fire + personal responsibility = growth Trash fire + 3rd party responsibility = compounding failure (head hitting wall) No trash fire = you are just repeating the past so no growth Add in serendipitous growth or growing and failing to adapt, entry points for new startups.
