If we cancelled all student loan debt today, based on the current student debt growth rate, we’d be back in the same place in ~10 years. The debt is a only a symptom of a much deeper disease.

Do you think lenders should take things like intended major into account? I'm biased, but it *seems* like homogenizing all degree programs for debt purposes acts as welfare for cultural studies programs etc. at the expense of petroleum engineers & CS programs.

Paying attention to risk as other debt would be great but top students from disadvantaged backgrounds would be considered high risk. Would require new data and new risk assessment models. Even then could see many inherit problems.
