Though it might be politically prudent, Trump and his family are not owed a face-saving exit. We've witnessed an attempted murder of our democracy—not by 70 million Trump voters, but by Trump and his enablers. And they are still attacking...

I have a hard time with this because on one hand I agree, but justice should be served and that might come off looking like it’s vengeful. Anything that happens here will be quite subjective.

If you compare what could’ve happen with a trump win vs what’s happening now, I would say that the victory camp is not being vengeful (with some obvious extremes which always happens)

The guy has skated his entire life, which is one reason we got into this situation in the first place. It'd be ideal if any legal action happened at arm's length: some state prosecuting him, rather than the DOJ

What would mercy look like here? Short prison sentences?

Speaking generally there is room between mercy and vengeance. The Union's failure to remake the South at the end of the civil war led to one hundred years of White supremacist terror and incredible Southern poverty. Nuremberg trials and the Marshall plan had much better outcomes.

To punish the guilty via fair trials is not vengeance, but rather to reaffirm that no one is above the law. This is a good thing for both Republicans, Democrats and the country as a whole.

As
@profgalloway says about covid, you don't let a vampire just leave town, you chase him out and drive a stake through his heart. If trump isn't fully pursued for what he has done then he will rise again. The dynasty needs to be wiped out. In the nicest possible manner
