Americans like to do both having a single family house with yard, even if you live in a city. That causes zoning headaches in the expensive cities. Some just say they’ll stay out in the country.

We have a beautiful country and the cities are horribly mismanaged.

The suburbs are pretty well managed. Zoning is preplanned and HOAs are chief maintainers of the peace and standards among neighbors. That's the optimist side at least.

There's a lot of constraints in rural building, though. Unless you're prepared to go without utilities... but that brings another set of constraints.

Also, the rural areas can be very nice. Small towns are all over the place and frequently offer a great quality of life, new home, and good community in which to raise a family.
