If you are an American citizen, I don’t think you can excuse yourself from being subject to laws, regardless of where you are. Enforcement is a separate issue.

I think it's reasonable to say "International Law should apply until there is a colony there capable of governing itself independent of any other government- including corporate policies." Saying they need to slow their roll isn't outrageous.

This would look different if the US or any other nation state had a vision or the means to build a self sustaining off world community. Currently, they don’t.

International laws also pertain to human rights. Corporations have been known to violate these human rights. That is a concern no matter which solar system the humans reside in. Note - Star Trek.

the question is not one of "shall law extend beyond or terminate before" this or that boundary. The question is what is likely to happen? People leave one place, but bring with them all the ways they were changed by the places they were. "Law" is one such change.
