Whoever's in charge of design at Google must be bumming that their jumping on the bandwagon of NBC Peacock logo design was the thing that tipped it over and made this look passé.

Strange from an adoption and design coherence standpoint because FB, IG and WA for example have very different designs and that differentiation probably helps each compete for its use case. Arguably they’d see a major decline if they aligned their brand design.
