Something I explained to Jessica: You can tell when you have banning adjusted properly on a forum when everyone hates you— when half the people complain you're too strict, and half that you're too lax.

But this is not actually true - if you banned the wrong people and left in place ban-worthy people, you’ll get the same result. It’s not actually zero sum.
That could happen in theory, but doesn't happen in practice, partly because the trolls are generally so blatant, and partly because if you did such a bad job at moderation, everyone would leave, and you wouldn't have a forum anymore.

Many *would* leave if there were less biased platforms with comparable reach. But if we had separate platforms for conservatives/classical liberals and woke/revolutionary left, the resulting echo chambers would further increase polarization by eliminating conversation.
