I went to a soccer match, got chatting to the guy next to me who was an ex player working as a scout for a major European club. He could see everything from individual skill to whole field tactics. I've been to literally hundreds of games and I could never get near his level.

Love when great sports commentators do that, they elevate you to their level of understanding the sport, adding so much depth to your experience watching. Watching them do that, as Paul pointed out, is an enjoyment in itself.
