“Many of the more successful entrepreneurs seem to be suffering from a mild form of Asperger’s where it’s like you’re missing the socialization gene. What is it about our society where those of us who do not suffer from Asperger’s are at some massive disadvantage?”

People who do good work often think that whatever they’re working on is no good. Others see what they’ve done and think it’s wonderful, but the creator sees nothing but flaws. This pattern is no coincidence: worry made the work good. - Paul

Or is it less about “discovering” the new idea, and independent minded ppl are more likely to execute the idea since they don’t let nay-sayers stop them?
-
That too. Discovery and execution aren't separate steps. Discovery is a form of execution, and execution includes a lot of discovery.

that's a fascinating concept and has massive implication for how we think of education. scaling individualized learning is of utmost importance to nurture this more broadly in society imho.

There's a great deal more here. Simon Baron-Cohen, the leading researcher in the world on Asperger's, discusses it's two core parts - one is socialization and the other is systematization.

Neurotypicals spend a great deal of time subconsciously systemizing social rules. Aspies often focus on other systems that are more structured and simpler to grok for those without well-functioning social brain circuitry.

perhaps there's also an element of caring less what people say about them and more about attaining results once one embraces one's own neuro-atypical nature, it's much easier to simply get on and get done without trying to pander to the whims of those around you

Being good a socializing usually means you are effective at adjusting your behavior based on others' expectations. That yields a reversal towards the mean in many situations.https://twitter.com/CarlHasselskog/status/730293118298411008 …

Paul, would you say this affects the quality&nature of ideas? Can it be the market economy currently favors ideas that are 'socially distant', or lack a form of social empathy? Trying to rationalize the fact that so many problems we face get literally 0 interest from either side.
