You can be as religious as you like, but you can't lecture your co-workers about how your religion is the one true one, or press them to convert, or call them infidels if they don't, or try to get them fired, or insist that the company declare your religion its official religion.

Religion is today a private matter. Wasn't always this way.
There are places where it still isn't, but adopting these conventions was one thing that made the west shoot ahead. (Though causality probably flows in both directions.)

I’m not convinced of that. Ask Jews and Catholics who were denied work on the basis of religion.

They were denied precisely because someone else’s “ideology” considered them as less human than rulers. Yes, it’s applicable for other groups as well, not limited to Gods.

The west was ahead long before that. Plus - the Levante is famous for having been very tolerant towards all religions, creeds and races. Long before the west.
