The glee about Quibi's failure seems to me misguided. Startups are hard. There's no honor in applauding when they fail. To me it's impressive that people so established would undertake a project so risky. Especially considering the probable reaction if they failed.

Jeffrey Katzenberg: “I attribute everything that has gone wrong to coronavirus” Quibi didn’t need luck. It needed a founder who took accountability.

I’m much more sympathetic to a scrappy small startup built by hungry 20 somethings that fails than a gigantic billion dollar tire fire vanity project for two super rich executives who refused to listen to potential customers and thought they could force product-market fit
-
I think that’s a pretty reductive stance. Their bet was to start a short-form mobile only studio and distribute all the content through our mobile app (no licensing). It takes lots of capital to do that. I don’t see how they’re trying to force anyone to anyone

I think a lot of the dunking on them is because it "seemed like a dumb idea" but some of the most groundbreaking companies seemed like dumb ideas when they started too so...
-
They also got a ton crap for blocking screenshots, not understanding that viral memes based on their content would have been free social media.

I don’t see spending $1.4B as a calculated risk but rather reckless disregard for investors’ capital.

I understand the valor in start-up especially when the risk is this high. What do you say when there is market evidence that proves your business thesis is not accurate? i.e the founders clearly ignored Verizon's Go90's failure. They repeated most if not all the same mistakes
-
for context: I have worked in media and I worked for Verizon when Go90 was active
