I just realized that my father used to do podcasts when I was a kid. He ran a chess magazine for the blind that was on audio tapes. He used to record them after we went to bed. I would fall asleep to the sound of "rook takes bishop, mate."

I just tried searching for it, and to my surprise I found this article from 1967: https://worldradiohistory.com/hd2/IDX-Audio/Archive-Studio-Sound-IDX/IDX/60s/Studio-Sound-1967-08-OCR-Page-0009.pdf …

Aww that's so low-barrier-to-entry too, I wonder what I'm missing that I could do like that

If there's one thing that could reliably put a kid to sleep, it'd be transcriptions of chess games

Chess is interesting, chess for the blind is intriguing.

That’s so interesting, I wonder how a blind person translates the 2D grid in their brain. Like “rook to B7” or whatever, to me, translates so easily cause I can imagine the letters/numbers grid. But for someone who’s been blind all their life? 🤔
