Should kids be going to sleep at bedtime instead of fighting? Probably. But for some reason it only seems special at bedtime. "Games night" fights in the middle of the day would be ... quotidian.

At bedtime, 8 yo and 11 yo often have something 8 yo has named "games night," consisting mostly of various forms of fighting. Their favorite lately is a variant of sumo where 11 yo wears a blindfold and keeps his hands behind his back. To 8 yo's delight, they're evenly matched.

At that age my children had invented a game called "violent basketball." We supplied the over-the-door hoop; they supplied the violence.
